About
Margaret is a founding partner at ASSEMBLY, a practice whose focus, since 1995, is exploring connections, both in innovative details, materials and assemblies, and in the integration of multiple building specialists into the design process. Margaret brings an ability to form alliances with community stakeholders that builds a collaborative network for the realization of projects. Recently, a Specific Plan project was approved which includes a master plan for community multiple-use buildings and gardens.
Margaret has maintained a connection to education, teaching architectural design studios at U.C. Berkeley and at the California College of the Arts (CCA). Teaching interests and professional work has maintained a focus on the integration of resilient strategies into the design process. Margaret is currently an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at CCA. Recent work has focused on advanced studios integrating ecologically remediative structures and habitation at coastal conditions through the Buoyant Ecologies curriculum. Embedded in this work has been collaboration with fabricators and marine biologists to produce full scale prototypes for ecological testing. This work has led to the formation of the Architectural Ecologies Lab to foster collaboration between science research and architectural design.
